Brothers&Sisters, challenges the history and contrived nature of still life painting, creating works from the same source material, but with a variety of experimental drawing techniques – from drawing blind, disorienting himself, having others manipulate his body while he draws, or using sticks, drills and or other implements to hold the pen, pencil or charcoal.
By using these varied techniques and through the repetitive exploration of each still life source, distinct ‘Families’ of works emerge. Each express their own individuality, idiosyncrasies and quirks, whilst sharing similar physical characteristics with the other ‘members’ of their family.
“The idea is that, when multiple works are shown together as a ‘family – the works, like human siblings, share the same parentage – that is myself and the still life, yet all are completely different.”
